Building Our Network Together: Our Launch Event

Good connections can open doors. Bringing those connections together can help change an industry.

Our June networking event marked the first step for Women in Construction North Wales. A soft launch of the Network, it brought women together to meet, share experiences and help shape what comes next.

We wanted to hear directly from the people the Network is here to support. What would make it valuable to them? What support is missing? What opportunities could we create together?

Through workshop discussions, attendees shared their ideas on the benefits they wanted from the Network and how we could build something active, practical and lasting across North Wales.

The response exceeded our expectations. The enthusiasm and honest conversations gave us a clear starting point, with ideas including:

Regular networking opportunities, from informal coffee mornings to larger events across different North Wales locations.
Mentoring, buddying and career development to support women at different stages of their careers.
Stronger connections with schools and colleges to introduce girls and young women to the range of careers available in construction.
Greater visibility for women, their achievements and the opportunities across the industry.
Collaboration with employers, educators, existing networks and allies to improve workplace culture and support progression.

These discussions helped shape our five priorities: Connect, Attract, Support, Change and Sustain.

Our ambition is to create a network where women can build relationships, access practical support and find opportunities to enter, progress and lead in construction. The ideas shared at the launch are helping us develop that direction and plan our next steps.
