The Power of Mentoring: Building Confidence, Careers and Future Leaders

Our latest Women in Construction North Wales workshop brought people together for an evening of learning, conversation and networking, exploring how mentoring can support confidence, career development and future leaders.

Led by Kath Foot, the session gave us an opportunity to understand what mentoring involves, who can become a mentor and how to approach supporting someone else.

Together, we explored:

  • Who can be a mentor and the experience and skills they can share.

  • What makes a good mentoring relationship.

  • Why people choose to become mentors.

  • The benefits of mentoring for both the mentor and the person being supported.

  • The challenges of mentoring and the importance of understanding expectations.

  • The differences between mentoring and coaching.

  • How to find a mentor, including making connections and starting conversations through LinkedIn.

Alongside the workshop, it was a great opportunity to meet other women working across construction and the built environment in North Wales, share experiences and make new connections.

It was particularly encouraging to welcome young women who are considering a career in construction. You do not need to be working in the industry already to come along to our events. Whether you are exploring career options, starting out, changing direction or already established in your role, you are welcome to join us.

Our events offer a chance to meet people, ask questions and learn more about the opportunities across the industry.

A big thank you to Kath for sharing her knowledge and experience, and to everyone who came along and contributed to the evening.
